I-2SEA Undersea Cable Project

Microsoft and Singapore-based Lightstorm are leading a consortium to build the I-2SEA (India-2-Southeast Asia) undersea cable system connecting India with Malaysia and Singapore. Key partners include Tata Communications, Singtel, ASEAN Cableship, and NEC Corporation. The 3,600-km cable will enhance high-capacity, low-latency connectivity to support AI, hyperscale cloud, and data centres. A major landing station will be in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to become operational in Q4 2029 and expand Lightstorm’s connected AI and cloud zones in India from 19 to 29.
