Japan renews its banknotes for the first time in 20 years

Japan started issuing new 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 1,000 yen banknotes on 3rd July 2024, marking the first redesign since 2004.
The new banknotes incorporate three-dimensional hologram technology, the first use of this technology on any country’s currency, to combat counterfeiting.
The new banknotes have a universal design to accommodate the visually impaired and foreigners, and the current banknotes will remain legal tender.
