Jalalabad in UP Renamed to Parashurampuri

- On 6 July 2026, the UP Cabinet under CM Yogi Adityanath approved renaming Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district to Parashurampuri.
- The proposal received no objections from the Central Government.
- The change reflects the town’s historical and religious significance as the birthplace of Lord Parashurama (sixth avatar of Vishnu).
- The town was originally named during the Mughal era after Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar.
