Lahore Named SCO Tourism & Cultural Capital

Lahore was designated Tourism and Cultural Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation for 2026–27 at the SCO summit in Bishkek.
Pakistan simultaneously assumed the SCO chairmanship under the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”
City chosen for its Mughal, Sufi and colonial heritage (Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens—both UNESCO sites, Badshahi Mosque, Walled City).
The year-long programme will promote heritage tourism and cultural exchanges among SCO members.
SCO members: China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus.
