Air Marshal Vivek Hande Takes Over as DGMS (Air)

Air Marshal Vivek Hande, AVSM, VSM, took over as Director General Medical Services (Air) on 1 September 2026 on permanent secondment to the IAF.
An alumnus of AFMC Pune, Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, and National Defence College New Delhi, he was commissioned in December 1988.
He is a nationally reputed gastroenterologist who has held multiple specialist and administrative appointments.
He previously commanded INHS Asvini and served as Senior Consultant (Medicine).
As Vice Admiral he was DG (Organisation & Personnel) in the Office of DG AFMS.
He now holds the distinction of having served in all three services of the Indian Armed Forces.
