Professor Richard Scolyer Passes Away at 59

- Australian cancer researcher Professor Richard Scolyer died on June 7, 2026, at age 59. Diagnosed with glioblastoma (grade-four brain cancer) in May 2023, he became a patient in an experimental immunotherapy treatment combining pre-surgery immunotherapy and a personalized vaccine, far outliving his initial six-to-eight-month prognosis.
- Scolyer was renowned for melanoma research with Professor Georgina Long; they were jointly named 2024 Australian of the Year. A state funeral was announced. His journey inspired a clinical trial at Duke University. He publicly shared his experience to advance research and patient awareness.
