Youngest Known Planet Elias 2-24 b Confirmed

- Astronomers confirmed Elias 2-24 b as the youngest known planet (age less than 1 million years) on 17 September 2026.
- Orbits star Elias 2-24, about 450 light-years away; still embedded in its protoplanetary disk.
- Jupiter-mass gas giant located in a gap within the disk and actively accreting material.
- Confirmed using data from Keck Observatory, ALMA and Very Large Telescope.
- Led by Andrea Bernardi; first inferred from disk gap in 2017.
