The IMO framework covers safety, security, environmental protection and efficient shipping.
Key areas include technical assistance, training, capacity building, enforcement and innovation.
Maritime shipping carries over 80% of global trade, making it vital for international commerce.
The day also promotes sustainable maritime development, maritime technology, port infrastructure and environmental protection.
