Telegram Restricted in India Ahead of NEET Re-Examination
Published on 17 Jun 2026
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has temporarily blocked access to Telegram in India until June 22, 2026, ahead of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. The move, based on recommendations from the National Testing Agency (NTA), aims to prevent the circulation of leaked question papers, answer keys, or misleading information through Telegram channels and groups.
- Invoking Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000, the government seeks to safeguard exam integrity and maintain public trust. Additionally, Telegram has been directed to disable the message-editing feature until June 30, 2026, to aid investigations and prevent post-exam manipulation. The NTA welcomed the decision for ensuring a fair examination process.
