Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Gets Tunnel Hood Technology
Published on 17 Jun 2026
- India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project achieved a significant engineering milestone with the deployment of the country’s first railway tunnel hood technology. Installed at mountain tunnel portals, these structures reduce noise, manage pressure waves, and enhance passenger comfort for trains running at speeds over 300 kmph.
- Tunnel hoods act as transition zones with pressure-relief vents that allow gradual air movement, preventing the “tunnel boom” effect. The corridor includes eight mountain tunnels (seven in Maharashtra, one in Gujarat). Using Japanese Shinkansen technology, the project incorporates global best practices for safety, efficiency, and sustainability, aligning with standards used in Japan, France, and China.
