Maharashtra become 1st state to introduce Unified Pension Scheme

Maharashtra became the first state to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for state government employees, effective from March 2024. This follows the Modi government's approval of UPS for central government employees on August 24, 2024.
The decision to adopt UPS is particularly significant as it comes ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, which are expected to be held in October-November 2024.
