- Gopichand Thotakura studied aeronautical engineering from California State University, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA.
- Gopichand Thotakura had the distinction of becoming the first Indian space tourist to travel to space as part of the crew in Blue Origin's New Shepherd-25 mission of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
- Gopichand Thotakura has become the second Indian to go to space after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma of the Indian Army.
