US Sanctions ICC Officials

On 18 August 2026, the US sanctioned ICC President Tomoko Akane (Japan) and Senior Trial Lawyer Abdoulaye Seye (Senegal).
Announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio under a presidential executive order.
Freezes US assets, blocks financial system access and restricts entry.
Linked to ICC cases involving non-party states including the US and Israel.
By 19 August 2026 the US had sanctioned nine of 18 ICC judges plus key prosecutors.
Israel welcomed the move; the Netherlands opposed it; ICC condemned sanctions and pledged to continue its work.
