First Export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi to Dubai
Published on 11 Jun 2026
- The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first-ever export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai on June 7, 2026. The one-metric-tonne consignment underscores the rising global demand for India’s premium fruits and highlights the export potential of the North Eastern Region.
- Known for its exceptional sweetness, bright-red colour, rich aroma, and superior quality, Tezpur Litchi features varieties like Bombaya, Bilati, Elaichi, Piyaji, and Sahi. The GI tag has enhanced its authenticity, market value, and buyer confidence. Farmers received nearly 10% higher prices, promoting better income and export-oriented practices. This achievement reflects APEDA’s efforts in connecting Indian farmers to global markets.
