UP Cabinet Approves Revised Maternity Leave Rules

- Uttar Pradesh Cabinet (22 August 2026) amended Rule 153(1) of the UP Financial Handbook. Female state government employees can now avail 180 days’ maternity leave twice in their career without the earlier two-year gap requirement. Benefit also extended to adoptive mothers.
- The change aims to support working mothers for pregnancy, childbirth, recovery and childcare. Eligible women employees of the UP state government can take the leave twice without the previous waiting period.
