Trump Renames Lake Ontario “Lake America”

Executive order signed 27 August 2026 for US federal purposes only.
Directs Interior Department and Board on Geographic Names to update GNIS within 30 days.
Lake Ontario lies between New York (US) and Ontario (Canada); part of Great Lakes system.
Canada continues to call it Lake Ontario (PM Mark Carney confirmed).
Decision amid US-Canada trade tensions; follows earlier “Gulf of America” attempt.
Name change has no effect on Canadian usage or geography.
