India Launches World’s First Once-Weekly Insulin Awiqli

India introduced Awiqli, the world’s first once-weekly basal insulin containing insulin icodec, on 9 July 2026. Marketed by Novo Nordisk, it is approved for adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The FlexTouch pen device reduces injections from 365 to 52 per year. Priced at Rs 2,611 for a 700-unit pack (30-40% cheaper per unit than daily insulin), it offers better glycaemic control. India is the seventh country to launch the drug.
