Soumya Swaminathan Inducted as FRS

Soumya Swaminathan was formally inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of London (FRS) on 10 July 2026 (elected in May 2026).
She is the second Indian woman scientist to receive this honour after Prof. Gagandeep Kang (2019).
The Royal Society, founded in 1660, is one of the world’s oldest scientific academies.
Swaminathan is noted for work in paediatric tuberculosis, vaccine development, immunisation policy, and global public health.
She served as WHO Chief Scientist and is currently Chairperson of the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.
She and M.S. Swaminathan form the first Indian father-daughter duo as Fellows of the Royal Society.
