Tamil Writer Poomani Passes Away

- Renowned Tamil writer Poomani (Pulithurai Manickavasagam) died on 12 July 2026 at the age of 79 due to age-related issues.
- He was known for novels and short stories depicting rural life, farmers, labourers, and marginalised communities in Tamil Nadu.
- He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014 for his novel Agnyaadi.
- His novel Vekkai was adapted into the 2019 film Asuran starring Dhanush, directed by Vetrimaaran.
- Poomani also directed the film Karuvelam Pookkal for NFDC.
- His last rites were scheduled for 13 July 2026 in Kovilpatti.
