New Damselfly Species from Western Ghats

- Researchers discovered multiple new damselfly species in Kerala’s Western Ghats (2023-2026), including Lestes paloti, Euphaea wayanadensis, Melanoneura agasthyamalaica, Protosticta armageddonia, and Protosticta sanguinithorax.
- Discoveries reported from Silent Valley National Park and Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Odonata (dragonflies & damselflies) are key indicators of wetland and forest health.
- Identified using morphology, microscopy, and molecular methods. Adds to Kerala’s rich odonate diversity (191+ species).
