FSSAI Proposes Mandatory Front-of-Pack Warning Labels

Proposal before Supreme Court: red hexagonal warning labels (“HIGH FAT/SUGAR/SALT”, “HIGHLY SWEETENED BEVERAGE”) on the principal display panel.
Font at least one point larger than the back-of-pack nutrition table.
Thresholds based on ICMR-NIN Dietary Guidelines 2024.
Two-phase rollout: Phase I (two+ nutrients exceeded), Phase II (any single nutrient).
Replaces earlier five-star rating plan.
Aims at clearer consumer information on packaged foods.
