Observed annually to recognise MSMEs’ role in entrepreneurship, jobs and growth.
Evolution: 2000 policy package → 2006 MSMED Act → revised classification (April 2025) → MSMED (Amendment) Act 2026.
MSMEs contribute 31.1% to GDP, 35.4% to manufacturing, 48.58% to exports; they employ 38.9 crore people.
2026 milestones: TReDS mandatory for CPSEs (₹3.47 lakh crore invoicing); Udyam registrations crossed 8.7 crore.
Budget 2026-27: courier export cap removed; credit guarantee raised to ₹10 crore for micro & small units.
