Narmada Project Payment Agreement

- Four states — Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra — signed a historic payment agreement in New Delhi on July 7, 2026.
- The pact resolves long-pending financial issues related to the Sardar Sarovar and Indira Sagar projects as per the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal (NWDT) Award.
- It finalizes cost-sharing, rehabilitation expenses, compensation for submerged lands, construction costs, interest on borrowings, and settlement of dues.
- The agreement was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil.
- This development marks a significant step towards cooperative federalism and improved inter-state water management in the Narmada basin.
