Apple leadership transition: Tim Cook to John Ternus

- Tim Cook stepped down as Apple’s CEO on August 31, 2026; John Ternus assumed the position on September 1, 2026.
- Tim Cook (65) becomes Executive Chairman; Ternus joins the board after 25 years at Apple.
- Cook became CEO in 2011; Apple’s value rose from ~$350 billion to $4 trillion under him.
- Ternus joined in 2001 and has led Hardware Engineering since 2021.
- Board approved succession on 20 April 2026; Arthur Levinson became lead independent director.
- Transition precedes fall launch expected to feature iPhone 18 Pro and first foldable device.
