King Harald V of Norway died on 28 August 2026 at age 89 after 35 years on the throne; Europe’s oldest reigning monarch.
Succeeded immediately by his son as King Haakon VIII under absolute primogeniture.
Norway is a constitutional monarchy (Constitution of 1814); monarch is head of state, and the government holds executive power.
The royal house belongs to the House of Glücksburg.
