Wendell Berry Passes Away

American poet, novelist, essayist and environmental activist Wendell Berry died at his home in Port Royal, Kentucky, on 31 August 2026 at the age of 92. Author of more than 50 books, he was renowned for writings on agrarian life, industrial agriculture and rural communities, notably The Unsettling of America (1977).
A National Humanities Medal recipient (2010) and Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame inductee (2015), Berry farmed in Henry County and remained a prominent voice for conservation and local economies.
