Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) on September 24, 2025, to simplify and speed up GST dispute resolution. GSTAT will have a Principal Bench in New Delhi and 31 State Benches, providing a unified forum for appeals against Central and State GST orders. The tribunal introduces a digital platform for online filings, virtual hearings, and case tracking, aimed at reducing litigation delays and boosting transparency. Hearings will begin from December 2025, with appeals being filed in phased manner until June 2026. The move reinforces India’s vision of a citizen-friendly, efficient, and predictable GST system.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 49th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation), reviewing eight critical infrastructure projects worth over Rs 65,000 crore across 15 States and Union Territories. The projects span sectors including Mines, Railways, Water Resources, Industrial Corridors, and Power. PM Modi emphasized timely completion, quality standards, inter-agency coordination, and prompt resolution of bottlenecks such as land acquisition and environmental clearances. PRAGATI, an ICT-enabled platform, ensures efficient monitoring and faster execution of key projects to boost economic growth and improve citizen services.

World Food India (WFI) 2025 was held in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from 25–28 September 2025, with the primary objective of positioning India as a Global Food Hub in food processing, supply chains, and innovation. The event saw participation from government officials, global investors, industry leaders, and innovators from around the world. The program included exhibitions and high-level panel sessions in areas such as food processing, packaging, cold chain, food machinery, and technology. On this occasion, India highlighted its food processing industry, investment opportunities, and focus on sustainable development. WFI 2025 hosted participants from over 90 countries and more than 2,000 exhibitors, marking a significant step toward establishing India as a global food powerhouse under Vision 2047.

The Indian government, through a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), has imposed restrictions on the import of plain silver jewellery until March 31, 2026. Importers will now require a government license to bring in such items. The move aims to provide a level playing field for domestic silver jewellery manufacturers and protect jobs in the sector. A recent surge in imports, particularly from non-silver-producing countries like Thailand, exploiting Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), has negatively impacted domestic manufacturers. These restrictions are intended to curb FTA misuse and safeguard India’s jewellery industry and employment.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with US cleantech CEO Chris Kemper, has named three innovators as the 2025 Young Champions of the Earth. Winners include Jinali Mody (India) for creating sustainable leather from banana crop waste, Joseph Nguthiru (Kenya) for converting invasive water hyacinth into eco-friendly packaging, and Noemi Florea (US) for developing Cycleau, a compact greywater-to-drinking water system. Each winner received US$20,000 seed funding and will compete in the upcoming Planet A pitch contest for additional grants and investment.

DRDO, in collaboration with Strategic Forces Command, successfully test-fired the Agni-Prime (Agni-P) missile from a rail-based mobile launcher, capable of striking targets up to 2,000 km. This first-of-its-kind launch enhances rapid deployability and low visibility. Equipped with advanced communication and safety systems, the missile met all mission objectives. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams, noting India is now among the few nations with canisterized rail-launched missile capability, strengthening its strategic deterrence and rapid-response capabilities.

Violent protests broke out in Leh, Ladakh, led by disillusioned Gen-Z youth demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule protections. At least four protesters were killed and over 80 people injured, including 40+ security personnel. Protesters set fire to the BJP office, a police vehicle, and other public and private properties after a prolonged hunger strike by local activists. The unrest reflects long-standing frustration over Ladakh’s lack of local legislature, electoral autonomy, and economic opportunities since becoming a Union Territory in 2019. Authorities imposed curfew, used teargas and live ammunition in self-defense, and called for peace, dialogue, and accountability.

India was elected as a member of the INTERPOL Asian Committee during the 25th Asian Regional Conference in Singapore. This achievement, led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), highlights India’s growing leadership in global law enforcement. The Committee guides Asia’s fight against organised crime, cybercrime, terrorism, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. India’s membership will strengthen its role in shaping regional security priorities, enhancing intelligence sharing, cross-border crime control, and promoting extradition cooperation. 

India’s only active volcano, Barren Island, located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, experienced two minor eruptions within a week. Barren Island lies on the tectonic boundary where the Indian Plate meets the Burma Plate, a region known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. While the island is uninhabited and the eruptions pose no immediate threat to human life, scientists are closely monitoring the area to understand its geological behavior and assess potential risks.

The Karnataka government has unveiled the Local Economy Accelerator Program (LEAP), a ₹1,000 crore, five-year initiative aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship beyond Bengaluru. Targeting tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Mysuru-Chamarajanagar, Mangaluru-Udupi, Hubballi-Belagavi-Dharwad, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi and Shivamogga, LEAP seeks to generate five lakh jobs by building robust startup ecosystems. The program comprises 16 strategic sub-programmes, including innovation labs, incubators, accelerators, prototype labs, hackathons, bootcamps, and digital clinics, covering the entire startup lifecycle. 

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 in New Delhi, aiming to foster creativity, problem-solving skills and self-reliance among students. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Education’s School Education & Literacy Department and NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission, the initiative invites students from classes 6 to 12 (teams of 5–7) to participate in a nationwide innovation challenge. Themed around Self-reliant India, Swadeshi, Vocal for Local, and Prosperous India, the event spans from preparation in October to final submissions and evaluations, with winners announced in January 2026. Targeting participation from 12 crore students across 6 lakh schools, the Buildathon will award ₹1 crore in prizes and mentorship to the top 10,000 teams, strengthening India’s position as a global innovation hub.

India and Australia have signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for organic products, marking a historic step in strengthening organic trade and cooperation between the two countries. This agreement is a key component of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) and opens new opportunities for farmers and exporters. The MRA covers unprocessed plant products, processed food items, and alcoholic beverages. This initiative further supports India’s goal of becoming the “Organic Food Basket of the World” and plays a significant role in the growth and development of the country’s organic agriculture sector.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)’s first overseas defence manufacturing facility in Berrechid, Morocco. Spanning 20,000 square metres, this state-of-the-art plant is the first Indian private defence facility established in Africa. The facility will produce the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8x8, jointly designed by TASL and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The WhAP 8x8 is a versatile combat vehicle that can be configured as an infantry fighting vehicle, armoured personnel carrier, reconnaissance vehicle, command post, mortar carrier, ambulance, or a remote weapon station.

Vandana Gupta assumed charge as the Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA) in New Delhi. A 1990-batch IP&TAFS officer, she has served in key roles across the Department of Telecommunications, Department of Posts, and various central government departments including GASAB, Ministry of Women & Child Development, and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. As CGCA, she will oversee financial accounting, audits, and Universal Service Obligation Fund operations for India’s telecom sector, reflecting her extensive administrative experience and distinguished public service record.

The Production Gap Report 2025, released on 22 September and supported by the UN, has warned that global fossil fuel production plans far exceed climate-safe limits, placing the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C and 2°C goals at severe risk. By 2030, governments are projected to produce 120% above 1.5°C pathways and 77% above 2°C limits, with coal output alone expected to overshoot by 500%. Major producers like China, the US, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Nigeria, and India continue expanding coal, oil, and gas production despite record subsidies and rising stranded asset risks. The report calls for no new fossil projects, faster renewable expansion, and just energy transitions to protect workers. 

The Visakhapatnam Declaration was adopted on September 23, 2025, at the 28th National Conference on e-Governance in Visakhapatnam, co-hosted by DARPG, MeitY, and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The declaration, themed “Viksit Bharat: Civil Service and Digital Transformation,” emphasizes Minimum Government, Maximum Governance and sets a roadmap for India’s digital transformation. Key priorities include expanding e-governance services in underserved regions like the North-East and Ladakh, adopting emerging technologies such as AI, ML, Blockchain, GIS, IoT, and Data Analytics, strengthening civil service digital competencies, and promoting cybersecurity and ethical AI use. 

Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the world’s largest government health insurance scheme, is celebrating its 7th anniversary. Launched in September 2018 from Ranchi, the scheme has reached over 550 million beneficiaries and provided cashless healthcare services worth ₹1.48 lakh crore. Across India, over 1.8 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational, strengthening primary healthcare services. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it a mass movement, highlighting that PM-JAY ensures “financial protection + dignity”, demonstrating how scale, compassion, and technology together can drive a national health revolution.

Typhoon Ragasaa, the strongest tropical cyclone of 2025, struck southern China’s Yangjiang city after causing 17 deaths and 17 missing in Taiwan. In Taiwan’s Hualien County, floods from an overflowing barrier lake affected many areas, with residents reporting inadequate warnings. In Hong Kong, heavy rains and strong winds flooded streets and beaches, canceled flights, and forced emergency shelter openings. Guangdong province issued a red storm surge warning as the storm moves toward Maoming city, a major oil refining hub.

The National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) has signed an MoU with New Space India Limited (NSIL) to set up two Direct Broadcast Network (DBNet) stations under the Mission Mausam project in Delhi/NCR and Chennai. These stations will receive real-time data from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, including Indian and international satellites such as Oceansat, NOAA, and MetOp. This will reduce data processing delays, providing complete data within 5 minutes of satellite overpass. The initiative will strengthen India’s weather forecasting capabilities, enhance disaster preparedness, support climate adaptation, and promote collaboration between the space and meteorological sectors.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch Vyommitra, a half-humanoid robot, on its first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission in December 2025, marking a historic milestone toward India’s maiden human spaceflight planned for 2027. Vyommitra will simulate astronaut-like activities inside the spacecraft, monitor systems, and transmit real-time data to ensure safety for future human missions. Under the Gaganyaan program, two more uncrewed missions are planned for 2026, followed by India’s first human spaceflight with trained “Gaganyatris” in 2027. ISRO’s long-term roadmap includes establishing the Bharatiya Antariksha Station by 2035 and achieving an Indian Moon landing by 2040.

On 21 September 2025, Project Vijayak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 15th Raising Day in Kargil, Ladakh. BRO announced a ₹1,200 crore expansion plan to improve connectivity and strategic strength in remote high-altitude areas. Since 2010, the project has built 1,400 km of roads and 80 major bridges, including reopening Zojila Pass in just 31 days in April 2025. The plan includes road widening, new tunnels, bridges, and advanced technologies, along with enhanced welfare for workers. Project Vijayak strengthens national security, local development, and quality of life in the region.

On 23 September 2025, the 10th National Ayurveda Day was celebrated at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, with the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet.” On this occasion, Ayurveda was highlighted as a solution for health and environmental balance. The Governor of Goa described it as a global health movement and welcomed the establishment of the Integrative Oncology Unit. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized the relevance of Ayurveda in treating lifestyle-related diseases. The National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025 were conferred upon Prof. Banwarilal Gaur, Vaidya Neelakanthan Moos E.T., and Vaidya Bhavana Prasher. Several new initiatives and research publications were also launched during the event.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tamil Nadu Government’s investment promotion agency, Guidance Tamil Nadu, to develop a world-class Greenfield shipyard on India’s east coast. The ceremony was held in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and attended by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. MDL will invest ₹15,000 crore in this project, which is expected to generate around 45,000 jobs. This initiative is considered a major step under Prime Minister Modi’s “Samudri Amrit Kaal Vision 2047” to promote the shipbuilding industry and establish India as a global maritime power.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer was awarded the prestigious ‘Living Bridge’ honour for his key role in successfully concluding the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA/CETA). The award ceremony was held at the House of Lords, and Indian-origin UK Minister Seema Malhotra accepted the award on his behalf. The award, organised by the India Business Group (IBG), recognises individuals and organisations fostering India-UK cooperation in trade, culture, education, and diplomacy. This FTA aims to double bilateral trade to USD 120 billion by 2030, strengthening economic ties and promoting mutual growth under the leadership of Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer.

The 71st National Film Awards were held on 23 September 2025 in Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu honoured the winners. Veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan) and Vikrant Massey (12th Fail) won Best Actor, while Rani Mukerji bagged Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. 12th Fail was awarded Best Feature Film, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani was named Best Popular Film. The President praised women- and society-centric films, calling cinema a medium of nation-building.

Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have officially decided to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), citing bias against poor and developing nations and the court’s failure to effectively address serious crimes. The three countries plan to establish local “indigenous peace and justice systems.” International human rights organizations have expressed concern, viewing this move as a serious challenge to global justice and human rights protection.

France and several Western nations officially recognised the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly, deepening Israel’s international isolation amid its ongoing Gaza conflict and West Bank settlement expansion. Co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, the summit also saw Monaco, Malta, Luxembourg, and Belgium support recognition, though Belgium stated legal effect depends on Hamas disarmament and prisoner release. French President Emmanuel Macron called recognition the only path for Israel-Palestine coexistence, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described it as a right, not a reward. Israel strongly opposed the move, with PM Benjamin Netanyahu warning of regional security risks. Currently, about 157 of 193 UN member states have recognised Palestine, marking a significant diplomatic milestone in the Middle East conflict.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Dhordo village in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, as a fully solar-powered “Solar Village” during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ program. The village now has 177 kW solar capacity, generating around 2.95 lakh units annually, significantly reducing electricity bills and potentially earning over ₹13 lakh by selling surplus power. Dhordo became Gujarat’s fourth fully solar-powered village under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, promoting clean and renewable energy in rural India.

On 22 September 2025, the 28th National e-Governance Conference (NCeG) commenced in Visakhapatnam, jointly organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The theme of this year’s conference was “Viksit Bharat: Citizen Services and Digital Transformation”, focusing on digital innovation for better governance. The event was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, with key sessions on AI-enabled services, cyber security, e-governance in agriculture, and citizen-centric digital solutions. During the conference, 19 National e-Governance Awards 2025 were presented to outstanding projects across central, state, district, and local levels. 

Researchers from Stanford University and the Arc Institute have, for the first time, designed a virus using Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can target and kill harmful bacteria. The team used AI to design the genome of the small bacteriophage ΦX174, generating thousands of genomic designs. Out of these, 16 viruses successfully infected and destroyed bacteria in the lab. This breakthrough could open new avenues to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Scientists noted that the next step involves AI-generated life, but more experiments and stringent safety protocols are required. The ability to design genomes quickly and precisely through AI has the potential to revolutionize medicine and biotechnology.

On 23 September 2025, International Sign Language Day 2025 was celebrated at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, organized by the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This year’s theme was “No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights,” highlighting the role of sign language in ensuring equality, inclusion, and dignity. The initiatives aim to strengthen accessibility, inclusivity, and opportunities for the deaf community across India.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal launched Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS) 3.0 in New Delhi, developed by DPIIT with ADB support. The system will benchmark India’s industrial parks on infrastructure, sustainability, logistics, digitization, and skill development, classifying them as Leaders, Challengers, or Aspirers. It aims to attract investment, generate jobs, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen the Make in India initiative, supporting India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub.

The Government of India, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has signed a $125 million loan agreement to upgrade urban services and enhance climate resilience in Assam. The project will benefit six district headquarters—Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Nalbari and the city of Guwahati, providing continuous metered water supply, advanced rainwater management and improved flood control measures. It includes the construction of six water treatment plants with a capacity of 72 million liters per day, 800 km of pipelines, real-time monitoring to reduce water losses, and nature-based retention ponds in Guwahati. 

The Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Adamya, the first Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel, at Paradip Port, Odisha. Built by Goa Shipyard Limited with over 60% indigenous content, the vessel strengthens India’s maritime security and showcases Atmanirbhar Bharat in defense production. Measuring 51 meters and equipped with modern weaponry, advanced navigation, and automated systems, Adamya will undertake coastal surveillance, search and rescue, and pollution control in the eastern maritime region. Its name, meaning “unconquerable,” reflects India’s commitment to safeguarding its maritime interests.

India and Morocco have signed a landmark MoU to strengthen defence cooperation, focusing on joint exercises, military training, capacity building, and defence industry collaboration. The agreement emphasizes counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, and military medicine, while also promoting co-development and co-production opportunities, particularly in drone and counter-drone technologies. A new defence wing at the Indian Embassy in Rabat will further enhance bilateral ties, and the pact reinforces strategic coordination in the Indian Ocean and Atlantic regions. This initiative marks a significant step toward deepening long-term defence and strategic partnership between the two nations.

India and Brazil have launched the “Maitri 2.0” Cross-Incubation Programme to strengthen cooperation in agri-innovation. The initiative connects startups, incubators, and research institutions from both nations to promote sustainable farming, digital technologies, and agri-value chain development. With 77 years of agricultural ties, the programme aims to transfer technologies from lab to farm, empower farmers, and tackle global challenges like climate change and food security. “Maitri 2.0” reflects a shared vision of creating a sustainable and inclusive agri-food ecosystem.

An Indian national became the first person deported from the UK to France under the new UK-France “one-in, one-out” returns treaty. The individual, who had arrived illegally via the English Channel in August, was flown from Heathrow to Paris. Under the treaty, for every illegal migrant returned to France, the UK accepts one legal migrant from France. This pilot initiative aims to curb dangerous small boat crossings, strengthen border security, and provide safe legal migration pathways.

The Ministry of Rural Development has signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen interventions under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The MoUs were signed with the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad, and four National Resource Organisations (NROs), namely the State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs) of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Telangana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of India’s first Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park at Bhainsola village in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. Spread over 2,158 acres, the park will be the largest among the seven PM MITRA textile hubs being set up across the country. Equipped with world-class infrastructure, it will include a 20 MLD effluent treatment plant, 10 MVA solar power unit, modern roads, and 81 plug-and-play factories.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) released its first “State Finances 2022-23” report, providing a comprehensive 10-year overview of the financial performance of all 28 Indian states. The report revealed that the aggregate state debt stood at 22.17% of GDP, exceeding the FRBM target of 20%. Among the states, Punjab recorded the highest debt-to-GSDP ratio at 40.35%, while Gujarat reported the lowest fiscal deficit at 0.76%. On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest fiscal deficit of 6.46%, highlighting variations in fiscal management across states.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has launched Bima Sugam, a single digital platform for all insurance needs, including life, health, motor, travel, property, agricultural, and general insurance. The portal allows customers to compare, purchase, renew, manage, and claim policies online, improving transparency, reducing costs, and increasing insurance penetration. Operated by the Bima Sugam India Federation with backing from the Life Insurance Council and General Insurance Council, it is hailed as the world’s largest integrated insurance marketplace, aligning with the “Insurance for All by 2047” vision.

Oil India Limited and Hindustan Copper Limited have signed an MOU for the exploration and development of copper and other critical minerals. This partnership is a significant step towards strengthening India’s mineral security and self-reliance. The US government has introduced the Trump Gold Card visa, offering residency to affluent immigrants for $1 million, with a future Platinum Card option at $5 million. The Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has renamed itself Al-Murabitun (“defenders of Islam”) to continue operations within Pakistan despite international sanctions. Responsible for attacks, including the 2001 Indian Parliament and 26/11 Mumbai attacks, JeM is relocating its bases deeper into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and continuing recruitment under the protection of Pakistan’s Army and police. Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh has set an inspiring example by declaring 75 panchayats as ‘Child Marriage-Free’. This milestone, achieved under the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign and National Nutrition Month, marks two years without a single case of child marriage in these panchayats. The success is credited to awareness drives, active community participation, and strict monitoring by the Women and Child Development Department. The model is now being replicated in other districts as Chhattisgarh works towards becoming a Child Marriage-Free State.

The Uttarakhand government has launched the Swabhoomi app to make land transactions transparent and secure. The app offers GIS-based property verification, ownership history, land records access, outstanding dues, accurate valuation, and nearly paperless registration. It aims to prevent fraud, streamline land registration, and assist farmers in securing loans. This initiative marks a major step in the digital transformation of land governance in Uttarakhand.

The United Nations’ latest ‘Gender Snapshot report (2025)’ warns that closing gender gaps is crucial to reducing poverty, as over 351 million women and girls could remain in extreme poverty by 2030 if current trends continue. While global school enrolment now favors girls in many regions, inequalities persist in Africa and Asia. Women still spend 2.5 times more on unpaid care work, hold less than a third of parliamentary seats, and face longer periods of poor health despite falling maternal mortality. The report highlights that closing the digital divide could add $1.5 trillion to global GDP and lift 30 million women out of poverty by 2050, emphasizing urgent global action on gender equality.

Qatar, an observer state of the International Criminal Court (ICC), met with ICC President Judge Tomoko Akane to explore legal measures against Israel following its strike on Hamas leaders in Doha. The attack killed five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer. While Qatar cannot directly refer cases to the ICC due to its observer status, it is pursuing all available legal and diplomatic avenues to ensure accountability, calling the attack a grave violation of international humanitarian law. India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) discussed expanding collaboration in the space and maritime sectors during the 13th meeting of the High-Level Joint Task Force on Investments in Abu Dhabi. Co-chaired by India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the forum reviewed investment projects like Bharat Mart and initiatives to integrate payment systems, including linking India’s UPI with UAE platforms. Non-oil trade between the two nations rose 34% in the first half of 2025 to nearly $38 billion under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) 2022.

Puducherry has become the first Union Territory in India to record zero maternal deaths in 2024–25 and received a Platinum Certificate from the Union government. Key initiatives included anaemia screening for 62,000 women, expansion of Primary Health Centres, the Chief Minister’s Girl Child Trust Fund Scheme, newborn insurance and empowered frontline healthcare workers. Puducherry’s success is now a national benchmark for maternal health and women’s empowerment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, the world’s largest tribal grassroots leadership programme. The campaign aims to empower 11 crore tribal citizens in 1 lakh villages across 30 States/UTs, focusing on responsive governance, last-mile service delivery and grassroots leadership. Key features include the setting up of Adi Sewa Kendras in every tribal village, leadership training programmes, and the celebration of Adi Sewa Parv to strengthen tribal identity and participation. PM Modi called the initiative a step towards “Vision 2030 for Tribal Villages,” ensuring that tribal communities become active partners in India’s development journey.

India’s Department of Fisheries signed a Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to strengthen Blue Port infrastructure. Pilot projects at Vanakbara (Diu), Jakhau (Gujarat) and Karaikal (Puducherry) will be upgraded with advanced technologies like 5G, AI, automation, and eco-friendly measures under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The initiative aims to make fishing ports smart, sustainable, and socially inclusive, boosting economic growth and community empowerment in India’s fisheries sector.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its State of Global Water Resources 2024 report, highlighting the increasing stress on freshwater resources due to climate change, population growth, and unsustainable water management. The report warns of escalating water scarcity in several regions and emphasizes the need for sustainable policies, improved water governance, and international cooperation to ensure equitable access to water and secure livelihoods globally.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has released “Shifting Paradigms: United to Deliver” under the UN80 Initiative, calling for reforms to make the UN more efficient and impactful across peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights. Key proposals include a Humanitarian Compact for faster aid delivery, a system-wide human rights group, unified data and tech platforms, structural realignment of UN offices, and improved operational efficiencies. Some reforms can be implemented immediately, while others require UN Member States’ approval. The report will guide discussions at the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week in October 2025.

The Bihar government has expanded the Mukhyamantri Nischay Swayam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana, offering ₹1,000 per month for up to two years to unemployed graduates aged 20–25 who are not pursuing further studies or employment. Launched in 2016, the scheme aims to support youth in skill development and competitive exam preparation. Applications can be made online through the official 7nishchay Yuva Mission portal.
